Written review:
Friday (2016) is an absolute cult classic movie, that will forever be something that be put on for group settings on weekends. Up there with the likes of Step Brothers (2008) for me, this movie is a fantastic comedy film. The acting and writing is hilarious, and meant to be enjoyed/laughed at. From the one liners, to even some decent life lessons of standing up for ones-self. This film earns its place as a top comedy film.
For the Acting/Writing score, I gave this film an 8 because it has incredibly funny lines throughout the story and there are some fantastic laugh out loud points multiple times from start to finish. And even though this is a more relaxed film in terms of any thematic importance. There still were some meaningful moments sprinkled into the lighter hearted funny moments.
For me the Visual Effects and Impact categories were the weak points of the film. Each receiving a 7 and 6 respectively. The film falls victim to its humor, leaving less of a lasting impact for me personally. I view this film as a light hearted film that I can put on at any point to raise the mood. Rather than something that I look to for an emotional experience. And the visual effects could be felted with its lacking of a large budget or film production. This film relied more on the characters and story than the Visual Effects.
The Casting/Set Design/Costumes and Film Score each respectively received scores of 9 for me. The did an incredible job with their casting in this film. Ice Cube and Chris Tucker each shared incredible chemistry on screen and at times it really felt like you were watching friends living their lives out on screen. The Set Design and Costumes were also fantastic with it really feeling like we were right there back in time. It was very effectively done and I can appreciate the genuine feel. And as for the Film Score, the music in this film was fantastic. Every scene got improved with the music either in the background or actually being a part of the scene itself. They chose very well. I simply couldn’t give it a 10 due to it not containing a unique score that could identify the film without context. But otherwise it was very enjoyable.
In the end, this film is fantastic and provides and enjoyable viewing experience time and time again. I can confidently recommend this film to everyone.
