Written review:

The Birdcage – (1996) was highlighted by the late great Robin Williams, with his excellent portrayal of Armand Goldman. The Acting/Writing was excellent and for the most part the story was great. There was some incredible funny moments throughout this plot, so despite the occasional cringey moment, this movie still earns a 9/10 for the category.

The Visual Effects and Film Score categories each earn 6/10 scores from me. The Visual Effects for the time were pretty rough in my opinion. I feel that they could’ve achieved sone better shots for some of the scenes had they simply done it live action rather than trying to green screen in it in post production. Because of this, I really feel that it had to receive a lower score, and I nearly gave it a 5/10. But I ultimately felt a 6/10 was perfect. As for the Film Score, this movie had fine music. It was just ok, but again, this movie didn’t have a signature song or theme. Thus, a 6/10 again.

Finally, the Casting/Set Design/Costumes and Impact scores each receive an 8/10 and 7/10 respectively. The Casting/Set Design/Costumes was very strong, with Robin Williams, Nathan Lane, and Gene Hackman all putting up strong performances in this movie. The Costume design was also very fun, and a highlight of the film for me. And the Impact of this film to me was that it was an interesting movie and slightly ahead of its time. But that it did at times felt forced, and slightly cringey. Not so much so that it ruined the film, but still a good film. Thus a 7/10. I would recommend this film to people who are willing to see an excellent performance from Robin Williams that touches a sensitive and difficult subject in a relatively enjoyable/funny manner.
